About Us

Dance and percussion workshops from the African Diaspora.

The Border Moves Youth Project is a long-term music/dance project for young people in Greater Manchester. The two stages of the project are:

Workshops in Schools

A whole-day workshop will be presented at your school. Two artists - one dancer and one percussionist - will attend your school to teach 6 one-hour sessions. Pupils will have the opportunity to try out both disciplines. Different dance and musical fusions will be explored, e.g. Street dance-capoeira, samba-reffae, African hip-hop... We will focus on developing performance skills, building bridges between traditional and contemporary music and dance forms and encouraging children to explore their own ideas. Each day culminates in a performance of the dances and rhythms learned. After the workshops a discussion forum will take place (time permitting) where children will have the opportunity to feedback and suggest their own ideas for the project.

School holiday workshops

These include a series of workshops presented during the school holidays in local community centres. During these workshops there is a greater emphasis on developing performance skills and children have the opportunity to develop their own ideas.
